Two proposed residential developments near downtown Woodstock have opened debate on the Woodstock City Council about residential density versus commercial space consistent with the city’s Downtown Development Plan. A 24 unit, 25,600 square foot apartment complex proposed by Billiteri Enterprises at Church and Madison streets faces financing difficulties due to lack of interest by any long term commercial tenant in the ground floor space. The so-called Founders Crossing residential development proposal for densely spaced single family homes and 36 rental apartments in two buildings, to be located on 11.5 acres near Clay and First Streets faces strong opposition from neighbors due to the expected increased traffic and parking overload.
