World War II veteran Charles Budrick built an 18,000 square foot mansion in 1977 at 1001 Cherry Valley Road in Bull Valley, where he and his wife lived until her death in 2013. Mr. Budrick moved out in 2016 to live in an assisted living facility at Fox Point at age 91. The mansion was sold to David Soskin, who used it as a transport center for a cross country drug trafficking ring until he was sentenced to 10 years in prison and required to give up the mansion in an asset forfeiture.

Shepherd Premier Senior Living bought the house and land for $750,000.00 after McHenry County authorities seized 350 pounds of illegal marijuana from the property. The home sits on 35 wooded acres, with a 12 foot deep indoor swimming pool, sauna and hot tub. When reconstruction of the mansion is complete, Shepherd expects to accommodate 16 seniors in seven shared suites and two private suites. Other areas will include an elevator, office space and recreational spaces.
