Owners of the now demolished Huntley Outlet Mall property are suing the village over rejection of their proposed warehouse and distribution development on the property. The lawsuit challenges resistance by Village President Charles Sass based on his desire that any redevelopment of the parcel generate between 200 and 400 jobs for local residents. The developer argues in its lawsuit that the highest and best use of its land, located between the General RV Center and Weber’s million square foot warehouse, is for warehouse and distribution development, while the village arbitrarily insists on maintaining regional retail district zoning.
The initial hearing in the court case is scheduled for October 1. The parties have been in court against each other in past years over building code violations which ultimately led to a settlement requiring demolition of the outlet mall.
