Having failed for years to find a buyer willing to invest millions in fixing up Woodstock’s historic courthouse, jail and sheriff’s house on the square, City Council members are now proposing to spend taxpayer dollars to renovate the stately structure with help from local TIF funds, and federal and state historic preservation tax credits, so it can be rented for use as hotel rooms, art galleries and studios, banquet and restaurant spaces, and office and retail occupancy.
The city funded $27,000.00 master plan for the building proposes redevelopment costs of more than $4.9 million.
