Governor Pritzker’s “legislator eyes only” preliminary state capital spending plans leaked out of a meeting last week with key legislators. The draft proposal would allocate $41.5 billion over the next six years to invest in roads, bridges, mass transit, affordable housing, recreation areas and public school construction, designed, according to Pritzker, to “put 540,000 Illinoisans back to work and finally fix our crumbling infrastructure.”
The Governor’s bold plan would provide $23 billion for roads and bridges, $3.4 billion for mass transit, $3 billion for K-12 schools, $2.4 billion for higher education, and $1 billion for renewable energy development, among other capital projects.
