Responding to concerns expressed by Niko Kanakaris, owner of Red Mill Tavern, the Woodstock City Council has tabled consideration of a proposed noise ordinance aimed at reducing concert noise over 62 decibels more than 100 feet from the sponsoring property from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Kanakaris emphasized his efforts to build a noise dampening wall on the Red Mill property to reduce concert sound volumes on surrounding residential property, the amount of sales tax revenue Red Mill pays to the city, and the jobs provided to his workers.
Woodstock Mayor Brian Sager said he felt the terms of the proposed ordinance, which would require permits for many outdoor events, and would exempt noise from City of Woodstock construction and maintenance work, needed further refinement before the Council votes on it.
