Chicago Spire Lawsuit Dismissed

Federal Judge Andrea Wood has dismissed the $1.2 billion lawsuit challenging the sale of the former Chicago Spire development site to Related Midwest, holding that U. S. federal courts have no jurisdiction over Ireland’s National Asset Management Agency, which acquired the debt of failed Irish developer Garrett Kelleher and then sold it to Related Midwest. Judge Wood ruled that NAMA is an agency of Ireland’s government, and immune from suit.

Related Midwest’s proposed development of twin towers on the site housing apartments, condominiums and a hotel are still tied up in City of Chicago zoning issues.
