District 19’s proposed bond issue for construction of a new school building for middle school and high school students would raise the property tax bills of District residents an average of $913 per year if it passes April 2. Parent proponents of the new construction point out that taxes will go up if the District were to merge with neighboring school districts rather than building the proposed new facility. The proposed new building would eliminate the need for $17.4 million worth of life safety and security improvements, and replacement of classrooms presently housed in trailers.

The proposed new school would have 22 classrooms, a library, two science labs, a band room and a gymnasium, plus common areas for up to 400 students.
