Developer David Cook proposes taking down the flat roof of Haber Oaks School in Cary, adding a second story, and converting the building into 40 units of senior housing, including 16 new townhomes, and 24 apartments within the current footprint of the existing school. The apartments would be one and two bedrooms from 750 to 1,200 square feet. Townhomes would be two or three bedrooms, from 1,400 to 1,800 square feet.
Cook told the Village Board that his project would be “targeted” to residents 55 and older, but would not be age restricted. District 155 voted a year ago to close Haber Oaks school. Cook says approval and construction of the project could take 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 years.
