Homeowners in unincorporated Lake in the Hills are vigorously opposing the Village’s plan to sell off their 68 year old asbestos composite water mail to Central States Water Resources for a mere $1.00. The Village contends that maintenance costs for the crumbling underground pipes makes up 40% 0f all water main breaks in ton, and that replacing the failing pipe with new materials would cost $1.8 million, for a portion of the water service area producing only $30,000.00 per year in water bills.
Residents fear losing their homes to increased water bills from the private utility which they will be unable to pay should the sale be completed. They are asking Algonquin Township to take over maintenance of their water mains.
