In opposition to the Trump administration 10 year infrastructure plan which includes only $200 million in direct federal dollars, Senate democrats are proposing five times as much direct federal spending in their 10 year, $1 trillion plan. The Democrat’s alternative offering includes $140 billion for new roads and bridges, another $140 billion to shore up the federal Highway Trust Fund, $115 billion for drinking water and sewer projects, $115 billion for public transit, $80 billion for electric grid and clean energy improvements, $50 billion for school buildings, and $50 billion for railroad infrastructure.
The Senate democrat plan would pay for the proposed federal infrastructure investment by raising corporate income taxes from 21% to 25%, the top individual income tax rate from 37% to 39.6%, and reinstating the alternative minimum tax.
