MCCD Considering “Glamping” Proposal For Cary’s Camp Algonquin

McHenry County Conservation District is considering a public private partnership with ModCamp, LLC 585 Crooked Lane, North Barrington, Illinois, for a “modern, outdoor hospitality experience that provides a nature retreat for Midwest adventurers” at Fox Bluff Conservation Area on the former Camp Algonquin site in Cary. The proposed project would involve ecological restoration of the Fox Bluff site, upgrade the Board of Trade Recreation Hall for events and activities, and help with removal of deteriorated structures slated for demolition by MCCD.

MCCD purchased the Camp Algonquin site in 2004, and leased the facilities to the MCHenry County YMCA until the Y camp closed in 2011 upon the McHenry County YMCA’s bankruptcy filing in 2011.
