Trump Threatens To Veto Any Federal Appropriations Bills Including Hudson River Tunnel Funding

Congressional aides say President Trump has threatened Speaker Ryan to block government wide federal appropriations legislation if it includes any funding for the proposed Hudson River rail tunnel. The gambit is part of Trump’s efforts to horse trade appropriations for his Mexican border wall and to punish New York Senator Chuck Schumer and House Appropriations Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen, who opposed Trump’s tax reform legislation. The Hudson River tunnel project is the only specifically proposed single appropriation which comes close to matching the funds Trump wants to spend on the southern border wall.
