Woodstock Considering Sales Tax Increase

Now that the Woodstock City Council has approved a 10% reduction in property taxes, politicians are looking for ways to make up the million dollar budget shortfall they created. Under consideration is an increase in sales taxes in town from 7% to 8%. However, council members run the risk that local residents could drive elsewhere to do their shopping to avoid the higher taxes.

If that happens, the sales tax rate increase would not make up the revenue lost from the property tax cut.
