Using the Illinois Treasurer’s office website, County Board Chairman Jack Franks and staffers Bridget Green and Oliver Serafini located $130,000.00 in unclaimed cash held by the state in various accounts as unclaimed property. Franks said: “Apparently [McHenry County] hadn’t checked the couch cushions in almost two decades, and when you’re the sixth largest county in Illinois, a huge amount of change slips out.”

Some of the found money has not been claimed since 1997. “We won’t deliver on our promise of lower taxes and a more accountable, transparent government without people on the team thinking outside the box for the benefit of taxpayers,” Franks said.
