After its Peoria headquarters and other corporate offices were raided by IRS agents, along with FDIC’s Inspector General and the Office of Export Enforcement, Caterpillar denied reports that it owes the federal government over $2 billion in unpaid taxes for the years 2007-2012. The company said “We disagree with the IRS’s position, have cooperated with requests for information, and believe we are compliant with tax laws and stand by our financial reporting.”
Last year Caterpillar, one of the world’s largest producers of construction equipment, had revenue of over $38.5 billion.
